“When work feels like play, you’re more likely to enjoy other aspects of your life more, too – my label brings so much joy and peace to my life that’s why I named it Sakena The Label” says Maryam the founder

About Us

Pronounced as Sa-kee-nah, translates to tranquillity and a state of being calm and peaceful. Maryam Oria’s slow fashion label Sakena is a tribute to Afghan artisans that are particularly visible through her intricately detailed clothing designed in a vibrant spectrum of colours.

The brand’s sole mission is to turn waste into fashion. Sakena uses deadstock Fabrics to create timeless one of a kind pieces. Every garment is made from one of the most luxurious vintage materials selected by Maryam from different parts of Afghanistan. Every garment tells a story. Story of the journey of each material used in the garment. Story of people who made it.

Women empowerment is at the very heart of everything Sakena The label does in its operations. Sakena The Label aims to uplift female artisans from underprivileged backgrounds and rural areas by helping them improve their financial and social standing within their communities through fair living wages and decent work. While the label may be rooted in Afghanistan, Sakena retails out of Australia.
